With our new family member, life has certainly changed.
A typical day goes like clockwork: time for feeds, bath, naps, tucking into bed at night and in between everything else, diaper greetings with poop and pee. We got very tickled when we heard baby V fart for the first time! Yes, fart. And we learned that a baby’s fart comes in adult-sizes too – in terms of volume level and intensity! Imagine a “loud” one coming out from this little bub. When we heard it, dear Hub thought it came from me, and vice versa! :P
Poop business is not just talking about shit – don’t mean to be rude!. Never did it cross my mind before (say, a decade ago?) that poop could actually start a thread of discussion between husband and wife, fellow mummies and daddies, your mum/dad/in laws/confinement nanny. Keeping baby comfortable is essential throughout the day. Imagine being soaked in dampness down there the entire time?? Yuergh. Keeping baby maleun (“dry” in Korean) is hygienically important (is there such a term?)
It’s common to hear of parents raiding baby fairs to stock up on diapers and milk powder for their little ones. Usage for both is high; for diapers, a newborn goes through 5 – 7 in a day and for baby V who’s 7+ weeks now, uses about 6 – 8 diapers each day depending on her output. At this point, her pee load is also higher, and it’s always good to keep her bottom dry whenever possible. Hunting for the right diapers depends on several factors (wow, sounds like the mastery of art and science of diaper, eh?) including: baby’s skin suitability or reaction (any diaper rash despite frequent change?), material of diapers, absorbency, fit, comfort, to name a few.

We’ve tried a few brands and I do notice that Happy Blossom seems more comfy on Baby V especially around her thighs. It’s common for this area to be tight, leaving some marks on her skin. It doesn’t happen when she wears Happy Blossom though, and the material for this part is soft, almost like tissue so I guess she feels the difference too since she loves to kick and exercise her legs!
