Baby V Explores Self-feeding with Kidsme Food Feeder!

Media Invite

The 6-month milestone is one which most parents look forward to as that’s when solids can be introduced so parents can get their creative juices (or headaches?) going when menu-planning! LOL.

A couple of weeks ago, baby V attended her first invited event organized by Totsworld Pte Ltd. This came at the right time, as she would have turned 6 months by the event, and Hub and I were already discussing what food to introduce and how we were going to do it. Yup, the “how” needs to be addressed to, as it’s no longer just feeding porridge at this early stage, like the good old days.

Pretty mummy, Qiqi, who helms Totsworld, is the exclusive distributor of Kidsme products in Singapore. When her first born was introduced solids, she found a very useful product which helped her little one feed on her own – Kidsme Food Feeder. Yes, independent eating! How’s that not good news for parents and babies themselves? Qiqi did a demonstration for us to better understand how to use the feeder, and the solids-ready babies present at the event had a chance to use the products too!

Then she got lazy and didn’t want to hold it… -_-

Chewing and swallowing are part of a baby’s feeding development. For babies who are introduced to purees, they learn to swallow without chewing as food is more watery. For parents who are more game, baby led weaning (will be sharing Vera’s experience with this in a separate article – stay tuned!) lets baby take the cue of discovering the eating journey: holding of food, putting into mouth, chewing then swallowing. With a food feeder, it’s like an in-between and personally, I feel it’s a good transitional step. The founder of Kidsme Food Feeder wanted to empower his son during feeding, and it led to this patented solution.

Why is chewing important?
> This action stimulations secretion of saliva which contains digestive enzymes to aid in digestion
> Reduces the risk of bacterial overgrowth: food which are not broken down properly can cause bacterial overgrowth, leading to indigestion, bloatedness and constipation
> Continuous chewing helps blood circulation in brain, activates brain cells
> Encourages movement of baby’s oral muscles
> Strengthens future development of articulation and pronunciation

The teats come in 3 sizes: Free size, small (6-8 months) and large (>8 months). Choose a comfortable size for your baby so it makes it easy during use. Replacement of teats are recommended to do every 2 months, depending on frequency of usage.

Besides the Food Feeder, Kidsme Multi-function Food Scissors makes food preparation quick and easy. With its biaxial system coupled with stainless steel cutlery grade blades, cutting food is safe and efficient. With its “flat head”, fruit and meat can be mashed into safe bite-sized pieces making it easier for baby.

Teething babies will enjoy gnawing on the Kidsme Icy Moo Moo Soother! This medical-grade, textured silicon offers safe relief that’s gentle on baby’s delicate gums. Interestingly, it can also double up as an ice pop too! Will definitely give this a try during those teething moments, which we suspect to be pretty soon. Seem to spot a white dot on her lower gum… hmmmm…

How cute is this? It even has udders! Simply freeze milk or juice in the cap to provide instant comfort for sore gums, or a yummy treat for a hot day!

And, guess what? Baby Vera is one lucky girl! She’s gotten her first DIAMOND at just 6 months young – how unfair cool is that?! Well, we’re not talking about a solitaire here, but the world’s first diamond PPSU Milk Bottle! Qiqi shared that the creator was bogged developing all sorts of functional products for his son, and neglected the “pretty stuff” which his wife aptly pointed out. Haha! How elegant and premium-looking can a milk bottle be?? Inspired from the Sancy Diamond, a magnificent pale yellow, shield-shaped 55 carat diamond. It is made with PPSU, one of the safest bottle materials available today, offering superb durability even when it’s dropped. You know how things tend to hit the ground with babies and kids… at least you know it can survive a few hard knocks.

See the "cuts" on this diamond bottle? it's really pretty, and really a girl's thing. LOL! Well, it comes in blue too, so the boys can have it as well :P

What is PPSU?
Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) is an amorphous high performance thermoplastic offering better impact resistance and chemical resistance than PP and PES. It can withstand continuous exposure to heat and still absorb tremendous impact without cracking or breaking.Commonly used in medical devices which required repeated sterilization. It has high melting temperature with quite a low moisture absorption (207°C).  PPSU does not absorb odor or colour. Naturally BPA Free.

You’d be happy to know that these great Kidsme products will be hitting the stores in July! Yes, major department stores will be stocking them, information embargoed at time of event but do follow them on Facebook (Totsworld Singapore | Kidsme Singapore) where announcements will be made! In the meantime, shop conveniently at their website: Totsworld and enjoy $10 off when you sign up for their mailing list!

The event was held at a spanking new café, Roosevelt’s Diner & Bar, conveniently located just next to Outram MRT and right in front of public parking lots. How’s that for convenience! Plus, if you drink, please go public! Its interior boasts an industrial chic theme and even the table used for product demonstration actually has a robust engine beneath the glass top!

Before baby came along, we were café-hopping quite abit, trying out new food places and coffee (Hub’s possibly an addict!). After this little bundle came into our lives, it’s tougher to sit down and have an uninterrupted  a relaxing meal. We were excited to try their food as I read off their website that they have pretty neat food (psst! there’s all-day brunch PLUS a kids’ menu) and good coffee!

See what we feasted on the other day!

The Mixed Berries Waffles ($12) must have been one of the best I’ve had! Crispy outside and fluffy without being densed and floury – if you know what I mean. My fork just kept going for it.. haha! I had a dose of Ice Cappuccino as the weather was such a killer, otherwise my usual would be a Hot Cappuccino, which the Hub was all-praise for! Aromatic, strong flavours. Guess it gave him a shot of boost to carry Baby V around when she showed signs of sleepiness (oh, for the record, she slept like a wink only during the event.) when we were there.
We were served food from the Kids’ Menu as there were several kids with us, and there were yums too! Here’s the Bolognese Spaghetti ($10), which is mixed with homemade sauce plus real meat and tomatoes, nothing from the cans, as shared by Amanda, the Marketing Manager of Roosevelt’s :)

Fish and Chips ($10) make great finger food for kids. Fresh dory fish were chosen and cut to strips, so nothing’s from the freezer packed type. The meat was soft and not too salty too!

Roast Chicken Omelette ($10) makes a nice balanced meal for young ones. Comes with tomatoes and mushrooms too! Gluten-free and dairy-free, for the careful eaters.
This Apple Forest Berries Crumble ($8) had me at the first mouthful with ice cream. Amanda shares that this dessert is made with real granola and grains, real green apples and berries baked to perfection (takes 15mins!) and topped with homemade Vanilla ice cream. Yums or what?!

If you’re a die-hard chocolate fan, don’t miss the Flourless Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream ($8). Eat it if you need an instant shot of happiness!

My colleague recently swung by Roosevelt’s for dinner recently and I was telling her to try their desserts – she came back the next day grinning about the Apple Forest Berries Crumble. Don’t forget to make reservations too. She was there on a Friday night and the place was full. Guess it’s no longer a secret hide-out anymore!

Our little family is very thankful to be part of this event and the opportunity to learn how we can go about tackling food feeding. Am also happy to get to know 2 lovely mummies who kindly shared tables with us – Serene and Ju Ann! Hee nice to meet both of you! :) While both adults’ tummies were filled and belly happy, am sure the happiest of all is baby V, as she gets to experiment independent eating with her new tools! Big thank you to Qiqi and Roosevelt’s for having us! We’d definitely head to Roosevelt’s soon to try out the Mains! :)

Do say “HELLO!” to us on Facebook and Instagram (@deedeedee13) and be one of the first to receive instant updates on new articles and daily musings! Thank you for your support, everyone! :)

  1. Hi, im thinking of getting the food feeder for my 8mth old gal… is it very useful? What size did u gt for ur gal?

    1. Hello there!

Ours was Large size and Vera was comfortable with it whenever she used it. No gagging or other signs of discomfort. I feel that it helps with her hand-eye coordination to learn to hold (pincer grab) and move it towards her mouth. It served as a stepping stone/introductory step for us towards baby-led weaning in a way, though the true-blue folks would disagree with this. Hee.
At 8mo, yr gal can use the Large size. Has she started solids yet? :)
